About the Client
The client is an Australian health-tech company working to make medication and benefit-plan pricing easier to understand for pharmacies, for insurers, and for the people actually paying the bills. Their mission isn’t complicated on paper: give everyone in the chain a clear, honest view of what a medication or a health plan will actually cost before they commit to it. In practice, that’s a much harder problem to solve.
The client’s network spans pharmacy chains, private health insurers, and self-funded corporate health plans across Australia.
For years, the way these groups compared costs hadn’t really changed; brokers pulled numbers together manually, cross-checked spreadsheets, and worked off price lists that were often out of date by the time anyone looked at them. It worked, more or less, when volumes were small. But as the client’s base grew, that process started breaking down.
That was the starting point for this engagement: replace a slow, broker-dependent workflow with something that could pull live pricing data and surface the most cost-effective option on its own, without someone manually reconciling spreadsheets every time a comparison was needed.
