Our Solution
Nethues’ team worked as an embedded extension of K12’s engineering group, moving across cloud architecture, legacy systems, integrations, and reporting rather than staying in one lane. The work ranged from building new AWS serverless infrastructure to keeping decades-old Core PHP applications running, often at the same time, on the same live platform.
The harder part wasn’t any single piece of work; it was doing all of it without disrupting a platform actively used by schools, teachers, and students. That meant careful coordination across five environments: Development, QA, Staging, Performance, and Production, and treating legacy and modern systems with the same level of care.
Beyond the core build, a few things stood out:
- AWS serverless infrastructure built with API Gateway, Python Lambda, SQS/DLQ, EventBridge, Redis, and SSM Parameter Store
- An auto-provisioning system built from scratch, with dedicated failure handling for hard-failure scenarios
- LTI integrations migrated from 1.0 to 1.3 Advanced, with SQL and code quality improvements along the way
- A legacy Core PHP application migrated to Laravel and Vite, plus PHP 8.2 upgrades across other applications
- Reporting and admin modules built and maintained for teachers, administrators, and district staff
- Ongoing feature development, QA, and production support across TAD and Live Practice
- Node.js and Express capability being built up to support future platform needs
What K12 has is a platform that keeps running reliably for the people who depend on it daily, while steadily modernizing underneath.
