Toon — Music Event Discovery & Management Platform

About the Client

Finding out what’s actually worth going to shouldn’t feel like a research project. That’s the problem Toon wanted to fix for music fans: too many good shows, especially the under-the-radar ones, get lost in the noise while people default to whatever’s already on their radar. Toon’s answer was a platform built to surface all of it, mainstream and niche alike, so going out again feels easy instead of effortful.

But Toon isn’t only a fan app. It doubles as an event management tool for the people putting the shows on- promoters, artists, venues- giving them a real way to get seen instead of competing for scraps of attention on generic listing sites. Two audiences, one platform: fans hunting for their next night out, and the people who need those fans to actually show up.

Nethues Technologies came on to build it end-to-end- a fan-facing app and promoter tooling both- on a frontend fast enough to make browsing feel effortless and a backend solid enough to grow with it.

Project Requirements

Two very different user journeys had to live on the same platform without either one feeling bolted on. Fans needed to browse and discover quickly; promoters, artists, and venues needed real tools to manage their presence. And because event discovery is one of those experiences where slow means abandoned, performance couldn’t be an afterthought; it had to be central to how the whole thing was built.

There was also the commercial layer to think through: payments needed to be secure and frictionless, and none of it would matter if the backend couldn’t handle growing volumes of events, listings, and users without falling over.

What the project actually needed:

  • A fast, responsive frontend built for browsing and discovery, not just displaying data
  • Room for both mainstream shows and independent, under-the-radar events to surface equally
  • Real functionality for promoters, artists, and venues to manage their own presence
  • Secure, integrated payments
  • Client-side state handled efficiently enough that the app feels native, not sluggish
  • Type safety baked in from day one, for maintainability down the line
  • A backend built to scale rather than get patched later
  • An architecture flexible enough to support features that don’t exist yet

Our Solution

The hard part wasn’t picking technologies; it was making sure two very different experiences (fans discovering, promoters managing) shared one coherent product instead of feeling like two apps stitched together. Nethues built the frontend on React.js and Next.js 14, which gave Toon both the speed fans expect from a discovery app and the SEO groundwork that matters when people are searching for events, not just browsing an app they already downloaded.

React Query handles server data and caching; Zustand handles everything on the client side that doesn’t need a trip to the server. Together they keep the app responsive without the state management turning into its own maintenance burden. TypeScript runs through the entire frontend, which matters less on day one and a lot more six months in, when a growing codebase needs guardrails. Tailwind CSS ties the visual language together- consistent, responsive, and quick to extend as new sections get added.

Stripe handles payments, integrated directly into the platform rather than bolted on as an afterthought. And underneath all of it, Laravel powers the backend, event data, business logic, the operational plumbing that has to hold up as usage grows.
